Fall’s Best Shoe Trends

It may be hot now, but Fall is just around the corner!  With each season change, comes new trends and styles in Fashion, footwear included.  A recent article in InStyle Magazine talked about the best shoes for Fall, so we put together a quick picture guide of some of the best examples:

Shoe Trends for Fall

1.  Colorful Prints:  This striking shoe is the “Nita” from Penny Loves Kenny.  Patterns of all kinds are going to be popular this Fall in footwear.  Works perfectly with color-blocked outfits such as a pencil skirt and cardigan.

2.  T-Strap:  While I don’t think this trend is necessarily “new”, I still really love it.  I don’t know what it is, but a t-strap heel seems to really make shoes look sexy!  These cute gold wedges are “Bandana” by Dolce Vita

3.  Pointy Toes:  I’ll admit, these are not my favorite of the Fall Trends.  It seems like pointy toes were in style not that long ago and haven’t been gone long enough to be back! Anyway, these red pumps are “Rolene” by Guess

4.  Color-Block:  This is one of my favorite trends lately.  I love the color-block look, especially in a pencil skirt/cardigan combo like I mentioned above.  I’m thrilled to see this trend in footwear too.  “Petunia” by Renee

5.  Ankle Strap:  Like the T-strap, this isn’t “new”, but I like it and for the same reason I like the T-strap…so sexy!  Ankle strap shoes are also trending in flats as well.  These classic black heels are “Bulbli” by Ivanka Trump

6.  Colorful Snakeskin:  These flats are adorable!  What a cute combination of trendy polka dots and snakeskin texture.  I will admit that some of the snakeskin I looked at I was not a fan of, so this trend may take me a while to accept fully.  These cute flats are “Matinee” by The Cool People

7.  Menswear:  I am old enough to remember this trend from the 80’s and I think I’m glad it’s back.  I’ve seen menswear flats worn with skinny jeans and the look is very cute.  Give it a try!  These shoes are “Maebird” from Bass (who else would you expect for women’s menswear shoes?)

So that’s the run-down.  Which is your favorite? Which one are you anxious to try out this Fall?

Choose the Shoes

I LOVE this series of posts!  I have so much fun flipping through the shoe styles on Polyvore, all the while wondering why the ones I like the best are so expensive.  Shoes are one of my favorite fashion items, and here’s why: When there’s a little extra weight on the body, not every clothing fashion item looks fantastic.  But you know what? Shoes ALWAYS look fantastic!

So here’s a set of shoes I found for the Sabrina dress.  Which one would you wear?

gold pumps, teal pumps, designer heels, turquoise dress, bridesmaid dress and shoes

Which Shoes Would you Choose?

I really love the ones in the lower right corner.  Classic pumps with a twist!

Diviine Digest-10/23/11

Wow, the week really seemed to go by fast! I’m sure it’s because I was late getting up last week’s Diviine Digest.  Here it is the end/beginning of the week again, already!  I’m going to mix things up and start with our Ugly Fashion Item of the Week:

Behold, the Breast Pillow:

Breast PillowI didn’t know my girls needed their own special pillow.  I think if I wore this to bed my husband would laugh me out of the room.  HOWEVER…after looking in the mirror this morning and seeing (sadly!) a lot just a few vertical chest wrinkles, I am almost tempted to give this a try, regardless of how silly I may look.

Photo of the week:  This photo is from the photo shoot we did last week for our up-and-coming new dresses.  I thought this picture turned out fantastic.

I especially love that she’s wearing my accessories, haha! 😉  You can’t see the earrings but trust me, they are awesome!

Best of Facebook:  I started a new Post Series on Facebook that I kind of like, but then again, I’m a shoe-addict:  Choose the Shoes.  There weren’t a lot of responses because I linked it wrong, so if you’d still like to let your taste in shoes be known, click the link or pic and pick your favorite pair!  We’ll be doing this periodically, so watch for Choose The Shoes on our Facebook.

Fashion Blog of the Week:  This blog isn’t a “fashion” blog per se, but hair is fashion, right? So I’m including it here.  CuteGirlsHairstyles.com is an awesome site that has let my 12-year-old daughter finally trust that I can actually do girls’ hair.  She picks a style off the website and then I do it on her head.  My daughter has the most beautiful head of naturally curly blonde hair…someday I’ll post a picture…and previously she wouldn’t let me do anything “fun” with it, which just about killed me.  Then my husband (yep!) found this website and I’ve been creating magic ever since!  So if you want to learn how to do hairstyles like this below, follow the link to her blog.  She has a YouTube channel and a Pinterest as well, and although the hairstyles look complicated, her how-to videos make them simple.

Best Random StumbleUpon:  Do you like funny, clever, creative and inspirational videos but hate that some are not “safe for family” and worse yet that the comments are downright disgusting? <—stupid YouTube commenters, I’m talking to you!

Then you’ll love Wimp.com.  I won’t admit to how much time I wasted watching videos one evening, but not one was NSFW,K’s or Family.  My daughter’s favorite: A Penguin’s Life of Crime.

I’ll leave you with our Quote of the Week from our Tumblr Photo Blog: “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.” ~Miss Piggy

Have a great week everyone!

Diviine Digest-October 7

Here’s where you can find the “best of”, and “my fav’s!” from all Diviine Modestee’s social sites…the Diviine Digest.  Welcome to Volume 1, Issue 1.

Quote of Week:  Love Drew Barrymore!  I just can’t help it, she’s adorable and sounds so very wise in this quote:

“When I lay my head on the pillow at night I can say I was a decent person today.  That’s when I feel beautiful.”  Drew Barrymore

Best From Facebook:  One of the things I love to link on our Facebook Page are some of the unique things/suggestions/how-to’s/etc that come my way.  Hopefully our fans feel the same and enjoy these posts.  Here’s a great one from this past week:  Easy Way To Carve Pumpkins Using Cookie Cutters

YouTube:  If you haven’t already, please take a minute and watch the video of Daniel’s Fundraising Event.  With the help of our customers we were able to give Daniel’s family a sizeable donation to help in his care.

Fashion Blog of the Week:  I MUST start out this first Diviine Digest by recommending what is, IMO the best Fashion Blog around: J’s Everyday Fashion.  J says about her blog:

“… not a personal style blog. You can think of it as a how-to fashion magazine with a personal twist – J uses items from her own closet to illustrate different styling tips or try out new trends to see if they work for the everyday woman! At its core, J’s Everyday Fashion was created to inspire women to have fun with fashion and to address the serious lack of practical style advice in America. Most people can’t afford a personal stylist, and fashion magazines and blogs are full of fantasy fashion that is too expensive and not obtainable for 99% of women. The self-proclaimed Rachael Ray of fashion, J teaches budgeting and styling skills to women on her blog…”

I love her blog because it’s fashion I would/do wear, often with stuff I already have.  Best of all, she has a realistic “normal” budget.  I should warn you: if you react to triggers such as “Banana Republic”, “Boots”, and “Shopping”, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK! (here’s the link again, in case you missed it: J’s Everyday Fashion).

What do you think?  Do you like it as much as I do?

Best Random StumbleUpon:  You can waste hours (literally!) using Stumble.  Now you don’t have to!  Just let me do the work for you 🙂  Best of Stumble this week is some amazing photographs from a photographer named Pedro Terrinha.  His photos are gorgeous.  You won’t be sorry you took a peek.  Aren’t his photos amazing?

Ugly Fashion Item of the Week:  There’s just not really much to say about these boodals.  Boots+Sandals.  Haven’t heard of a boodal?  That’s because they don’t exist, and shouldn’t.  Except for this random pair below:

If you don’t wear shoes like these, congratulate yourself.  Job well done!

I hope you’ve enjoyed our first installment of Diviine Digest.  It was a great week for us at Diviine Modestee and hopefully a great week for you as well.

Boot your Style into Fall

Fall is my favorite season.  Not so much for the changing leaves on the mountains, or the crisp evening air.  But actually more for the fashion options.  Shallow? yes, definitely!  I LOVE boots, tights and leggings.  I love skirts, skinny jeans and dresses.  And I love to mix and match them together:  Boots with skinny jeans, skirts with leggings and boots, dresses with tights and boots…see a common theme?  I love boots!  Pretty much any kind of boot.

In searching around the interwebs looking for great fashion pics of boots for a blog post (this one, actually) I found the post I had written in my head had already been written by Sheri Reed over at CafeMom.com.  Click on the photo below to go to her article:

Generally I prefer my skirts/dresses a little longer but I love this overall look!

While the article is dated 2010, it is still very relevant in 2011.  She gives 5 Basic Guidelines for pairing your boots with your skirts or dresses.  Read her article, it’s great.  Just don’t respond with a useless comment such as “I don’t own any” like a couple of people at the bottom of her article have.  If you don’t own any boots (or skirts. Or dresses), go get yourself some.  Stat!

And just for some absolute adorableness, I found this cutie-pie while googling “boots tights dresses”:

I want her outfit. Seriously!

Seen at the Fashion Show….

Television and print media like to make Fashion Shows out to be very glamorous.  Thin models, fashion runways, photo flashes, celebrities everywhere*…The reality is they are several days of WORK.  And several days of eyes and brains being assaulted by some of the weirdest/craziest fashion that can be found. For example,  as soon as I walked in to the Project at the Women’s Wear Daily LA Fashion Show in Las Vegas I saw this:

Cowboy Ski Boots?

Check out the boots on that guy!

And I was stricken with a great idea…I was going to photograph all the crazy/unique/interesting fashions that I saw there.  But to tell you the truth, I ended up so mesmerized and involved in everything there was to see at the Fashion Show that I completely forgot!  So it’s a good thing that my friends** over at Thread Ethic (they don’t know I’m their friend, but whatevs!) have done the job for me, and with much better photos than my iPhone could possibly take.  Their first post in a series of photos that they took at the Fashion Show is about SHOES!  One of my favorite topics!  Go check it out!

*Never saw ANY celebrities 😦

**I know their Aunts/Uncles and Nieces…my son used to dance with Tay years ago.

PiperLime’s top 11 for Fall

Today I received an email from PiperLime with highlighting their Top 11 Trends for Fall.

PiperLime's Top 11 Trends for Fall

While I’m not super-excited for the 70’s Platforms (maybe they’ll grow on me) and Bellbottom Flares (really?? those were a Big Fail a few years ago…why throw these at us again?), there were a few items on this list that I was thrilled to see.

Faux Fur is fun, snuggly AND kind to animals, an extra bonus!

I have a ton of Pendants, glad to know I can still wear them.  Thank you PIperLime for putting Pendants on your list.

I LOVE the Hiker Boot look in general, just not the one they’ve shown, and have been keeping my eye out for a pair.  I think they’ll look cute and trendy with many skirts and dresses.

But best of all….Midi Skirts and Dresses!  Is that what this length is called?  I did not know this.  I just call it the Keeping-My-Large-Thighs-Covered-So-As-To-Be-Kind-to-The-General-Public-Length.   Coincidentally enough, guess who has a variety of Midi-Length Dresses and Skirts?  That’s right, Diviine Modestee.  Always at the fashion fore-front 🙂

Housewife Style

I’ll admit, I am a fan of the Housewives shows.  I enjoy taking a peek into other people’s homes and lives.  I’m also a fan of Hoarders, so I get both ends of the spectrum: shiny, gold spotless mansions and possum-ridden, trash-filled, smaller (usually) homes.  I’m curious about it all.  I guess I’m a voyeur at heart.

I was pleased to see a photo of Carolyn Manzo from RHW of NJ wearing a dress very similar to one that Diviine Modestee has designed and has available online and in our store.

Here’s Caroline on the left, looking fabulous in her red dress with a bow on the shoulder.  Plus, I really love her shoes!  In general I’m not a huge fan of Carolyn.  I think her advice is kind of bland and cliched.  But like all the Housewives, she has a fantastic dress-up wardrobe full of beautiful gowns and dresses.

Our dress, the Vanessa also sports a shoulder bow, which is initially what caught my eye when comparing these two dresses.

The Vanessa, shown on the right ———–> has the similar bow on the shoulder.  It is also a red, but a much more universally flattering shade of red that we call ‘watermelon’.  Vanessa also adds a little more coverage with it’s cap-sleeves and added length.  Best of all though, is the horizontal bands that run down the length of the body of the dress.  These bands are so flattering and concealing of those lumps and bumps, which I am a pro at.  Lumps and bumps.  And knowing how to camouflage them.  We recently had a small focus group of women of various ages and sizes try this dress on and with it’s slimming cut and the bands, it was honestly flattering on everyone who tried it on and it seemed to have an ageless appeal.

I haven’t purchased this dress myself yet, but I tried it on and loved it.  But more importantly, if it gives me an excuse to track down some heels like Carolyn’s wearing (check out the link, these are cuter!) I won’t hesitate to buy it in a heartbeat.
